Innovating to Move the Needle on Dialysis in 2020
Dialysis has not changed much in 35 years, alleged U.S. Health and Human Services Deputy Secretary Eric Hargan. HHS plans to bring innovation to kidney disease, which affects one in seven Americans and costs the government more than NASA and the Department of Commerce combined. Following the first Executive Order ever to take a comprehensive approach to a particular disease, HHS Chief Technology Officer Ed Simcox reported that CMS will soon roll out two new payment rules to make it easier for the Feds to pay for therapies beyond traditional dialysis—and both CMS and the FDA are looking at regulatory solutions as well.
