By the end of 2019, a new U.S. Health & Human Services contract will be in effect to use the Tablo HD systems for disaster support. What can the Fresenius Incident Command Team do for you?

You can sleep better at night if you get dialysis through Fresenius. Last year's Hurricane Sandy was a successful test for their Incident Command Team (ICT), which plans for disasters. The ICT made sure 15,000 affected people got their life-saving treatments; answered hundreds of emergency hotline calls; kept 40 clinics running with generators; distributed gas, food, and water; and even supplied motor homes and supplies to employees who lost their homes in the storm.

A possible software problem can lead to low blood pressure and "hemodynamic compromise" in those with ascites who use a Baxter Home Choice PD cycler. The newest software version gets rid of the option to bypass the drain cycle to prevent overfilling errors—but some patients who are already dry may be at risk. NephroPlus Kidney Care Centres in India—the brainchild of Kamal Shah, who may be the only person in India doing nocturnal home HD—now offers daily home HD at all of its 15 clinics. Daily home HD is especially appealing to working patients, though since it is more gentle than standard HD, others benefit from it as well. In India, most dialysis is self-funded; each daily HD treatment costs 999 Rupees, or just under $16.
